With approximately 13,000 students, NHL is a medium-sized university of applied sciences, offering higher professional education programs which prepare you for particular professions. The NHL offers a wide spectrum of Bachelor’s degree programmes and a growing number of high-quality Master’s degree programmes and course units.
The NHL offers both traditional education and practice-oriented research and engages in contract activities for companies and institutions. The NHL is famous for its personal touch - our lecturers are passionate and enthusiastic and we help our students to make the most of their talents. Every student is unique, with his own history, specific interests, and career path.
NHL, University of Applied Sciences is located in Leeuwarden, a city with about 95,000 inhabitants. Leeuwarden is situated in the north of the Netherlands and is surrounded by attractive meadows and countless lakes. It is the capital city of the province of Friesland. The heart of the city is very old, with beautiful old buildings (500 historic monuments), pleasant shops, an attractive theatre, lots of events, museums and, of course, canals. There are countless restaurants and pubs in Leeuwarden, and in the summer there are many terraces where you can enjoy a drink and look out over the canals.

Housing for international exchange students is organised through StudentStay which offers fully furnished student rooms all around Leeuwarden. The rooms are provided with a bed (including mattress), desk with chair, cupboard and bookshelf.
